4. Summary of the Problem.
a The problem was identified through a Category IDR that indicated that on a number of aircraft a burn
mark was noted on pin 3 (UNUSED) of P81 (part of the harness from the aircraft battery to the charger). Refer
to TM 1-1520-238-T-10, page 9-11 or TM 1-1520-238-T-6, page 9-206. This burning has in some cases
affected other surrounding pins (which are part of sensing circuits and the hot battery light on the Caution/
Warning panel) and the pins to unseat and back out from the connector. With a potential of approxi-
mately 12mV on pin 3, it is believed that arcing occurs upon installation of P81 onto the battery.
b.
c. The purpose of this TB is to instruct persons on removal of unused pin 3 from P81 in order to elimi-
nate the effects of arcing and prevent subsequent damage to surrounding pins..

8. Inspection Procedures.
Locate P81 of wire harness W108 (harness from aircraft battery to the charger). Remove connector P81
from the battery and identify pin 3. On many aircraft, this has been noted as being burned to differing de-
grees. Proceed to paragraph 9 for corrective procedures.
9. Correction Procedures.
Check seating of all pins on P81. Unseatable pins and/or any indication of melting requires replacement
of the connector. All usable connectors require removal of pin 3 from P81. After removal of pin 3, cut off pin,
cap and secure it in the bundle of W108. Install fill pin in location 3 of P81. Reassemble connector and reinstall
on the battery.
