8. Inspection Procedures.Before or
during next Phase Inspection but NLT 31
October 2003, inspect the
CPG canopy detonating cord to determine if a suspect detonating cord is installed. The following canopy
detonating cords are considered suspect IAW this TB 1--1520--238--20--121: NSN 1377--01--170--5260 ( Part
numbers 1377--MS89, 51135--5, 6260906--5, 7--3111112017--43).
NOTE
Due to limited supply of replacement parts, this TB 1--1520--238--20--121 will
serve as authority to operate with Canopy Removal System (CRS) beyond the
established retirement life for canopy detonating cord NSN 1377--01--170--5260
( Part numbers 1377--MS89, 51135--5, 6260906--5, 7--3111112017--43) and NSN
1377--01--186--9901 (Part numbers 1377--MS92, 51135--7, 6260906--7,
7--3111112017--35). This authority is allowed, provided each crew member has
immediate access to a survival knife (P/N SAEAS8662, NSN
7340--00--098--4327)
or
breakout
knife
(P/N
61D4383,
NSN
1680--00--083--7011). This authority expires 31 Oct 2004 unless rescinded soon-
er.
Correction Procedures.
NOTE
The replacement canopy detonating cord, NSN 1377--01--186--9901, is currently
used in the Pilot station and will now also be used in CPG station.
a. If suspect canopy detonating cord is not installed, the red horizontal dash "--" and the circle red "X"
b.
If suspect canopy detonating cord is installed--
(1) Enter a red diagonal " / " on the DA Form 2408--13--1 with the following statement: "Canopy
detonating cord requires replacement IAW this TB 1--1520--238--20--121 NLT 31 Oct 2004."
(2) The red horizontal "--" entry from para 1.a. will be cleared.
(3) When replacement cord is available, remove detonating cord NSN 1377--01--170--5260, IAW
TM 1--1520--238--23 paragraph 12.77 for the AH--64A or for the AH--64D the IETM, Cord Detonating, Forward
Tee to Elbow, Copilot/Gunner (CPG), Removal and Install.
(4) Install replacement cord NSN 1377--01--186--9901 IAW TM 1--1520--238--23 paragraph
12.77 for the AH--64A or for the AH--64D the IETM, Cord Detonating, Forward Tee to Elbow, Copilot/Gunner
(CPG), Removal and Install.
c. Place a copy of this TB 1--1520--238--20--121 in aircrew information reading files. This is to ensure
crews are aware of the potential, that a suspect component may be installed. The message may be removed
from the reading files once all aircraft in that unit no longer contain suspect CPG detonating cords.
d. Add the following Caution to TM 1--1520--238--23, paragraph 12.77 and to the IETM under Airframe
Structure, CPG, and Pilot, severance devices.
CAUTION
Ensure the detonating cord is not kinked. A kink in the cord may prevent the cord
from firing . If a cord has been kinked it is no longer serviceable.
e. TM 1--1520--238--23P--3 for the AH--64A and the IETM for the AH--64D will be changed reflecting
the change from the NSN 1377--01--170--5260 cord to the NSN 1377--01--186--9901 cord. Refer to the TM
1--1520--238--23P--3, Figure 711, item 9 or the IETM, Cord Detonating, Forward Tee to Elbow, Copilot/Gunner
(CPG), Removal and Install, for the location of the detonating cord.
